Live After Five - Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra
The Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra played the first Live After Five performance of the 2013 season. The concert was held under the recently completed sculpture of "The Crest" in Galvez Plaza. The performance was interrupted by rain, but much of the crowd stuck around and waited for the orchestra to start playing again.

Big River Regional YOLO Race
The Big River Regional was a YOLO stand up paddle and kayak race on the Mississippi River. The course was 13 miles starting downtown near the Horace Wilkinson bridge and ending at the L'Auberge Casino. These are a few highlights from the race. More pictures are available in the full gallery.
Nottoway Plantation
Nottoway Plantation is located in White Castle, Louisiana. This historic building is a very popular location for weddings and I know plenty of wedding photographers who shoot there, so I decided to have a look for myself.. I endured the rain on this afternoon to get a few shots of the plantation from the River Road side of the house.

CSS & MNDR Concert at The Varsity Theater
NYLON Magazine's 2013 summer music tour made it's stop in Baton Rouge on June 16 and I covered the event for them. The concert was at the Varsity Theater with CSS and MNDR taking the stage. It was a small crowd of only about 45 people, but they played like it was a full house.

Fireworks over Downtown Baton Rouge
July 4, 2013 fireworks show over Downtown Baton Rouge. The display is just over 20 minutes long which is plenty of time to make a few adjustments and start getting the types of shots that you want. It is unfortunately not long enough to change locations and get different points of view.
South Toledo Bend State Park
The Toledo Bend Reservoir is a 185,000 acre, 289 square mile body of water on the Sabine River that forms the Louisiana-Texas border. These pictures are from the Louisiana side, mostly taken along the banks of the South Toledo Bend State Park.

St. Joseph Peninsula State Park
St. Joseph Peninsula State Park is at the eastern end of the Florida panhandle. The peninsula is oriented north-south in the Gulf of Mexico with the gulf on the west and St. Joseph Bay on the east. The park takes up the northern 10 miles of the peninsula with 7 of those miles being completely undeveloped. Unlike the more popular beaches around Pensacola, Navarre, or Destin, there are no hotels or high rise buildings, no bright lights, and no rows of people lining the beach. If you ever wanted to have some beach area to yourself, this is the place to be.
There are 8 rental cabins in the park that seem to stay booked year round, but I happened to find an open night in one of them. The cabins are on the bay side of the peninsula with with walkways that lead to benches right at the edge of the water.
The walk from the bay side of the peninsula to the gulf side takes you through a 1/4 mile long trail through the edge of the wilderness area and over some of the very tall dunes that are one of the main attractions at this park.
Once you make it to the beach, you can walk for miles with no people, beach chairs, hotels, or other distractions. There's nothing there but dunes that are taller than most houses. The sun sets on the gulf side of the peninsula and you get a great view from the beach.
The bay side of the cabins offer equally nice views. The peninsula is far enough away from the city lights that there are plenty of stars at night and the sun rises on the bay side in the morning. There is a nature trail that follows the coast line along the bay, and there are deer running around on this part of the park.
